Did you always want to wear a race finisher medal without going the extra mile, or even a whole mile, for that matter? Well, the not-so-fleet-of feet can experience fleeting glory at the second annual The Garland Guzzler 0.5K race on Sept. 28, part of the city of Garland, Texas' Oktoberfest celebration in its downtown square (520 W. State Street). Runners are encouraged to don lederhosen and top off their 546 yard run with Oktoberfest-themed food, drink and games. Underachievers are welcome, and everyone gets a medal!
Back by popular demand for its second year, the Guzzler is a pup-friendly event, and dogs in dirndls are especially welcome. Linger for live music, and if oompah isn’t your style, you can sing along with Journey Tribute Band “Escape.”
Registration is $35 + fees (Price goes up on Sept. 26.) There's also a "Little Lederhosen Lap" for kids ($10 plus fees).
Oktoberfest fun starts at 6 p.m., the chip-timed race goes off at 6:30 sharp, and festivities continue until 9 p.m. For more information, please visit https://www.garlandtx.gov/2005/Garland-Guzzler-05K-Race
